Has Github Era Changed The Interview Process?
No doubt, Github Era has evolved to become a definite game-changer in the employee recruitment process. There are two aspects from which this overall discussion can be approached from a higher end perspective. One is the overall innovative approach Github has taken up in recruiting new hires and the second one is the Github portfolio other recruiters have started to expect for taking in employees into their companies.
Why Github portfolio for job-seekers?
In the yesteryears, a person could target for a job by clearing written screening rounds followed up by interview rounds testing his expertise and checking whether he will fit into the company culture. But in the changing times, recruiters have switched to newer practices and are looking for Github portfolios that substitute the time that involves in answering the question “Do you know to code?” This is the baseline of how Github is becoming a well-known developer evaluation tool. The rising popularity of the repository sites, access to phishing on mobile app, diminishing costs and infrastructure barriers have all contributed to this new culture of presenting ‘portfolio of one’s work’ to employers for grabbing immediate attention.
Difference Between Github and Other Job Sites
Also, one major difference between Github and any other major job-seeking site is that one’s Github profile is not essentially a ‘resume’! Most of the times, there is no real way to validate whether a person is sound in all the tools and languages he has written as his strengths unless orally questioned. A person’s Github profile saves time and energy for both the employer and recruiter by making way for easy validation.
How Github hires new employees?
The hiring process is Github is an over-all new experience as the company’s employees who work in the actual core team start conversing with the interview candidate. They adopt this casual one-to-one conversation approach to ease up the candidate and show genuine interest in each and every one of them. Every interviewee gets flied to San Francisco from any corner of the world for attending interviews in Github which itself is uber-cool! The interviewee gets to interact with all the people in the team and is put in complete ease unlike the standard, gruelling interview sessions that is conducted by all other companies across the world.
Thus, Github played an iconic role in changing the interview processes for the better!
